This morning I went to the Nevada County Board of Supervisors ("BOS") meeting to watch as my friend, Ed Scofield, elected to be the 2011 Chairman of the BOS!
Ed, and his wife Carol (whose birthday is today), are great people and great neighbors. They are tireless in their efforts to make our community a better place for all. For that we applaud them!
Ed's first item of business as the new chairman was to recognize Nate Beason for his service as the 2010 chairman. With the chairmanship of the BOS comes increased aggravation without a commensurate increase in pay and is a thankless job. So, I want to thank Nate Beason for his service too. He had to put up with a lot of stuff this election season and that can be difficult. Hopefully, Ed's ride will be a little less bumpy.
And just as an aside, Agenda Item #43 was pulled from the agenda this morning. Item #43 requested a letter in support of a new lecture series entitled “What’s Next in Science” by the BOS.
The controversial lecture series appears to be an anthropogenic global warming series targeting local students and co-sponsored by an individual that actually told NU Seniors last year that all of the fish in the ocean will be dead in five years.
For more information on this controversial lecture series, see NC Media Watch where Russ Steele has discussed this issue in great detail.
Update: Thank you Carol for sending me the photo!
