Jeff Pelline - Creating Divisiveness in Nevada County

Below is an original cartoon from our favorite local cartoonist, Bob Crabb, which depicts the former editor of The Union, and now local blogger, as the perennial troublemaker, Cartman of South Park fame.  At this moment, I would like to offer Jeff Pelline (the former editor of The Union) some sage wisdom. If you truly wish to be a beacon of change in our community, try to focus on the positive things in our community which are attractive to those on the outside. The slash and burn thing (while apparently stoking your rather large ego) is getting old.

  1. Pelline's ego is bigger than I thought...and that was pretty big. I am genuinely urging you to focus on the positive aspects and events in our wonderful community. I know that you do not want to be the caricarture that is written above. Nobody would be. Stay positive...

  2. Well you sure are being kind to the troll Barry.

  3. You would have to ask Bob Crabb about his intentions in the cartoon, but if you have ever watched South Park, you would know that the caricature above is intended to show the similar behaviors of Cartman and Pelline. In nearly every single episode (much like in most posts by Pelline), Cartman is trying to cause conflict among his peers. Once the intended conflict erupts is when we get the "sweet" comment.

Jeff is very good at reporting the local happenings at restaurants and the like. If fact, were he to focus on the positive aspects of the community, we would all be the better for it. He truly does the positive stuff well, but the positive stuff gets lost in the nasty and vile rhetoric of his political musings. I am not trying to be kind or not kind. I am just being intellectually honest. Again, my advice to him is to stay positive...focus on what is good in our community...stop attacking every single individual with whom you disagree.

We all are going to disagree on an issue (ex.: you and I on Doug LaMalfa), but if we fight to the death over each disagreement...

What is the saying? "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

  4. I never watched South Park, that was you youngins. But I get it. The problem with Pelline is it is his "hardwiting" and cannot change. Heck, even you got nice over time. LOL! Even I got nicer too. But there are people like him tha cannot change. I was being tongue and cheek in my last comment, so hey, let's talk about Doug.

  5. Doug is fine...I just think Sam was a better choice. The point is you are not a bad person because we disagree. As far as hardwiring, I prefer to believe that everyone has redeeming qualities, and for sure, Jeff has some also. He simply chooses to focus his efforts on destruction as opposed to building. It is sad, as a simple change in focus could greatly benefit our local community. Eventually he will come around.

  6. Barry, Pelline might not want to be the caricature, but it's such a funny 'toon precisely because it hit the target. Jeff remains pissed that he's portrayed by a fat character, but every political cartoonist worth their salt works with the canvas nature provides and for Jeff, perhaps the fattest man in Nevada City, a pudgy little %^&%! like Cartman was perfect for both physical and psychological characteristics.

Perhaps because of his latest post, lecturing you (Barry) on how to win friends and not be divisive, he's down to only one comment in the last 24 hours plus, from the NUJSD trustee who Jeff is pointing to as the one to be a Facebook friend with in order to get comments supporting Jeff's campaign to dislodge an inconvientent TheUnion columnist.

No, time is not going to fix Jeff, not without some positive and probably professional external influences after hitting bottom. Losing a critical mass of his sycophantic Greek chorus might be a part of that. All I need to stop being hypercritical is a heartfelt and honest apology for inventing the "temper tantrum" lie about me and dropping the ugly climate "denier" rhetoric.

I won't be holding my breath.

  7. As I said before and not being cheeky in any way, I firmly believe that everyone has redeeming qualities, and for sure, Jeff has some also. The slash and burn thing only last so long before you upset everyone in town...and I also firmly believe that Pelline has crossed that threshold. Eventually he will come around. 8. Pelline has made himself irrelevant. He is just a loudmouth and nasty person. His blog has become a desert of nothingness. He attacks everyone relentlessly because as a narcissist, he has to have the last word. I just read his "I am leaving my attack on Barry" post as his header as he goes and pouts all week. I do feel bad for his isolation here but he did it to himself.

He says I am irrelevant. Funny thing is, I could care less. My ego is just fine. A bloated flatlander cannot make a dent in me. Too funny.

  9. Todd: Pelline has spent the past four years sliming me on every issue and even stalking me on the internet to counter comment where I post. He has insulted my university and law school education. He has insulted everything about me...even my mother. In response to such actions, I forgive him. I will neither partake in nor comment on such mudslinging. Over the past four years, Pelline's true colors have been exposed. It is time to be positive. It is time to make peace with Ackerman, with me, with the Chambers, with those with whom he disagrees, and most importantly with himself. I wish him the best. I hope that he finds the same peace that I have. Being Cartman would not be very fulfilling.

  10. God Bless you then Barry. But Pelline is now saying he will seek out my pastor to ask him about me. The man is a loon.

  11. Thanks Todd. He will change. We all do.

  12. No, Barry, some people never change and I'd not bet against Pelline being one of them. I'll be happy to forgive him when he changes his ways, retracts and apologizes for his slanders; until then he remains, well ... Cartman.

I see today that even Judith Lowry has signed off from the so-called "Sierra Foothills Report".

I think that a lot of others have too...

  14. Here is another example of Pelline being Cartman from RL Crabb's blog.
    http://www.rlcrabb.com/history-2/will-nevada-city-pass-on-elections-again

Bob posted an article about Nevada City in the 90's. Great history lesson with cool cartoons.

What does Pelline say without warrant?

“'I don’t live in Nevada City anymore,'”

"Well, that’s obvious, because you have no problem ridiculing it (though at the same time soliciting donations for the Widows, who march in a Nevada City parade)."

"You seem to be afraid of shining a light on your home over in Grass Valley, however. What are you afraid of?"

Crabb was not ridiculing Nevada City by simply stating that it was difficult to find people to run for city councl, yet Pelline argumentatively and snarkily has to throw a bomb into the fray just to see if it will explode. Looks exactly like the caricature above. Please stop launching attacks at everyone...I am begging you.

  15. Saw your wife at the function last night. Where were you? LOL!

Pelline is still talking to himself. I think he has lost it. Mumb;ing now. Too funny. But wjen no ne likes you this is what happens. Isolation, mumbling, soon a white coat. LOL!

  16. Kim went to the Contractor's fundraiser, I ran kids to and fro...and relaxed at Pam's Fitness for an hour. BTW Pam' Fitness First is a very inexpensive and nice place to workout. Free weights, cardio, and machines.

Anyway, Kim said that the event was well attended (as always) and that she had a lot of fun. Are you going to the Red Light Ball on Saturday? I think that I saw your name on the seating chart.

  17. Todd: It is noteworthy to point out that this post has reached the fifth most viewed post in this blog's history in less than four days. It should be listed on the right side under "popular posts" which automatically posts the most viewed posts.

  18. This morning on his blog Jeff has decided to take on the Tea Party and the Republican Women. He really does not understand what he is doing, nor how deep the cow pie is that he just stepped in.

  19. I will see you at the Red Light Ball. I am bringing my new GF. The function last night was well attended and everyone was very enthusiastic. I bet a bunch of dough was raised.

I was alerted to a new post on the big guy's blog. He is once again alienating a huge section of the County voters. He is attacking the Tea Party, but it looks like he is once again chatting to himself. He still thinks the term he likes "hard right" is some epithet I guess. It is not. But when you are as liberal as he is, anything to the right of Mao is hard right.

  20. Yes Todd. Frankly, I am excited that Nevada County is attracting a candidate for governor! Kudos to the NCRWF for getting a candidate for governor to come visit little, old Nevada County. This event is the type of event that we should be celebrating in our small community, as without the tireless efforts of these wonderful women (my wife in particular), statewide politicians would be ignoring such a small rural county. There are two Republicans running for governor, and hopefully both will come here to speak.

We need more speech, not less. Jeff, when will the attacks stop? I am begging you; it is not becoming of a person of your intellect.

  21. I see the big boy is trying to stir up crap on the proposed concept project on Spring Hill. What a guy. I believe it has been zoned for this since 1999 and he is acting like it is some "cabal" foisting it on the populace.

  22. Looks like the bigboy just can't take defeat very well. Now he is the spell checker for the Union! Too funny!

  23. He is still at it. I think he is stuck on stupid, but it is a free country and he can be as stupid as he wants. Which is a lot. LOL!
