School is Finally Back in Session!

Every summer with the kids being home, my work productivity declines. It is so difficult sometimes to stay at work when the kids are at home and want to go to the beach or go golfing. We love spending time with them.

So, it is back to school time!

Much to my dismay, our older daughter started high school this year at Nevada Union. My dismay has nothing to do with Nevada Union, as it is great high school. The problem is that we are sad that she is getting older, which means that we are too! With her next transition after high school, she will be away at college and not home every day. We are not looking forward to that transition, as we will miss her so much...but such is life.

That being said, our younger daughter will be starting fifth grade at Mount St. Mary's Academy, which is another incredible school. Being parishioners at St. Patrick's Church, we have been eyeing Mount St. Mary's for a few years.

"Mount Saint Mary’s is the oldest continuously operating Catholic school west of the Mississippi. Founded in 1859, Mount Saint Mary’s is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and proud of a fully credentialed faculty. Mount Saint Mary’s teacher/student ratio is 1:18. A strong academic foundation is emphasized, as children become engaged in the joy and responsibility of learning as a lifelong process."

"Using critical thinking and problem solving skills, students are encouraged to develop a discerning eye and to evaluate life experience. Opportunity for self-expression comes through the media of art, music, drama, and technology as students gain skills to live productive lives in the global, digital, and information-based future."

We are thrilled that our younger daughter will be exposed to such strong academic and Catholic foundation.

In Nevada County, we are truly blessed to have such wonderful choices of schools for our smallest treasures! Let the school year begin!
