Jeff Pelline - Misrepresenting the Facts and Still Grinding his Chamber Axes

Today, Jeff Pelline freaked out that the owner of a building in Grass Valley put up a sign supporting Dan Miller for Supervisor. It is plainly evident (as the nose on my face) that Pelline supports Dan's opponent, in fact I would not be surprised if Pelline were paid to blog for Dan's opponent. It is also a known fact that Pelline has an axe to grind against the Grass Valley Chamber, as Pelline is not allowed to place his food magazine for distribution at the Grass Valley Chamber, because Pelline is not a member of the Chamber. Makes sense to me.

So today Pelline gets a double bonus, as he blasts both the mayor of Grass Valley who is running for supervisor (against the person supported by Pelline) and the Grass Valley Chamber in a single post. That being said, Pelline is again misrepresenting his facts - classic rhetoric.

First, let's get the facts straight. The building in which the Grass Valley Chamber is located is owned by a third-party (I am not entirely sure who owns it, but it is clearly not the Chamber).

Second and in any event, the Grass Valley Chamber rents the first floor of the building from this third-party while the second floor remains vacant and owned by the third-party.

The owner of the building hung a sign from his second floor balcony; a balcony which is completely and utterly unrelated to the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce aside from being on a part of the building that the Chamber does not rent.

Question to Pelline: How is the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce (which resides and rents only on the first floor of a building) taking a position on a local election when the owner of the building places a sign supporting Dan Miller from the second floor of the building he owns and on a floor completely unrelated to the Chamber of Commerce?

Answer: Only in Pelline's warped mind...but if Pelline is looking to confuse people into believing that the Chamber of Commerce is supporting a candidate in an effort to grind his axe against both the Chamber and Miller...then it makes complete sense.

Jeff Pelline - Creating Divisiveness in Nevada County

Below is an original cartoon from our favorite local cartoonist, Bob Crabb, which depicts the former editor of The Union, and now local blogger, as the perennial troublemaker, Cartman of South Park fame.  At this moment, I would like to offer Jeff Pelline (the former editor of The Union) some sage wisdom. If you truly wish to be a beacon of change in our community, try to focus on the positive things in our community which are attractive to those on the outside. The slash and burn thing (while apparently stoking your rather large ego) is getting old.

Jeff Pelline - Blogger with an Attitude Problem (Part II)

Yesterday (again), Jeff Pelline misleading smeared Congressman McClintock. Pelline, a local left-wing blogger, has been on a "McClintock bashing terror" of late. The reason is unknown especially considering McClintock is not even his congressman, but the misleading rhetoric is clear.

"A review of 'Legistorm' data by [Pelline] confirms McClintock's pension payment. But it also shows a big jump in his staff's salaries (31 percent since 2009, during the Great Recession) despite his preachy 'small-government' mantra."

This statement is highly misleading (only pointing out one category of expenses) and simply designed to wrongfully ridicule the congressman.

Each congressional office receives what is known as the Member's Representational Allowance ("MRA") and each district receives a different amount to spend on office rent, salaries, etc. The MRA for Congressman McClintock's district is about $1.5 million. Below are the total amounts spent in operating McClintock's congressional office by during his tenure in Congress.

2009 - $1,482,038.06
2010 - $1,399,056.72 (5.6% decrease in spending)
2011 - $1,373,453.97 (1.8% decrease in spending
2012 - $1,295,974.59 (5.6% decrease in spending)

These figures are provided from the congressional raw data at The Sunlight Foundation.

The difference between the MRA and the money actually spent (whatever is left over at the end of the year) is returned to the Treasury and spent directly on paying down the national debt. It should also be noted that, while most congressmen spend the entire MRA, McClintock (and Rand Paul) generally return about 6% of the MRA to the Treasury. When the MRA was recently reduced, most congressional offices needed to scramble in order to come in under budget. McClintock did not have that problem, as his office always budgets a healthy reserve.

It is clear based on all of the evidence, and not just statistics "cherry-picked" by a leftist blogger, that Congressman McClintock efficiently manages his congressional office in exactly the manner which he believes government should function - spend less than you bring in - and has consistently spent less each year.

Shame on Pelline for again misleading the public, but we expect nothing less from the former editor of The Union.

Jeff Pelline - Blogger with an Attitude Problem

As reported on his blog, Jeff Pelline was in downtown Truckee yesterday and checked out a few San Francisco-based men protesting President Obama. In fact these guys were asking people to sign a petition to impeach the President. Unreported by Pelline is that these guys are paid by the LaRouche PAC and have no affiliation with any elected officials.

Instead of pointing out the obvious about these guys from out of the area (in fact not long ago these same guys were in Rosebrug, Oregon), Pelline wrongfully alleged as follows: "They came here because Truckee 'representative' Tom McClintock has cleared the way for them, at least in their minds."

Maybe they were in Roseburg, Oregon, because Jeff Ackerman "cleared the way for them?"

Much to the disappointment of his audience, Pelline erroneously asserts that Congressman McClintock "set the tone" for them. This argument is much the same as the argument advanced by some in connection with the targeting of conservative groups by the IRS - that President Obama "set the tone." In connection with the IRS, it is a weak argument not supported by concrete evidence...it is also a weak argument advanced by Pelline without any concrete evidence in connection with Congressman McClintock.

When these articulate responses were posed to Jeff Pelline, what did he do? Instead of responding to these intelligent and thoughtful comments, he deletes the responses in order to advance his false narrative.

Is this proper behavior of an unbiased journalist or someone who is attempting to advance his false narrative by stifling discussion, changing the subject, and bullying any dissent to his false narrative? You be the judge.

Spain’s conservatives earn resounding election victory as voters oust Socialists

Emilio Morenatti/AP

"MADRID — Spanish conservatives won a resounding mandate at the polls Sunday, freeing them to make deep austerity cuts as they struggle to pull the country’s economy out of a tailspin."
"In an election marked by bitter disappointment and desperation over the euro zone’s highest unemployment rate, the Socialists who have led the country since 2004 were cast from office in their worst showing in the modern era of Spain’s democracy."

"Conservatives won 186 of the 350 seats in parliament; the Socialists won 110."

"Sunday’s vote gives Europe another leader closely aligned with the austerity-based consensus that the continent’s strongest economies say is the solution to what plagues the weaker ones. In recent weeks, leaders in Italy and Greece have been forced from their perches."

The rest of this article is here.

While the local leftists are crowing about the socialist tendencies of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the rest of the world is realizing that government cannot continue to spend money that it does not have.  That being said, on the isolated issue of corporate bailouts, I think that there is widespread agreement that corporations should succeed or fail on their own accord without government intervention.

Here in the United States, we just passed the $15 trillion national debt thresh hold.  Neither Obama nor Congress has the political will to slash government spending and close tax loopholes in an effort to get a balanced budget.

On the other hand, Congressman McClintock supports a balanced budget amendment, yet the leftwing, former editor of The Union is playing liberal politics and omits this fact while he continually portrays McClintock in a false light.  This political gamesmanship is nothing new for our local left as can be seen here and here

We do not need political game playing.  We need people in charge who are serious about our nation's problems.  We need fearless people in charge, like Congressman McClintock who is overwhelmingly financially supported by private contributors, who have the political will to make the tough choices and who will not be intimidated.  No more bailouts, no more government intervention into private affairs, and balance a damn budget.

The solutions to the problems that ail us are simple.  The unions, the corporations, the politicians who are supported by the unions and the corporation, and spin doctors who care more about their personal ideology than the country are making the simple solutions far less likely to be attained.

In any event, I will get off my soapbox and congratulate Spain for making a bold move to the right.  Now, the new Spanish leaders need to lead and fix the spending problems which ail them.

Jeff Pelline Caught Trashing Placer County Republican Party with no Factual Basis

"Placer’s Central Committee is running into the same criticism as the GOP central committee in our county — it is too far to the right, alienating moderate republicans. In my view, McClintock has been a catalyst in polarizing both groups because of his outspoken hard right rhetoric, documented here repeatedly.

"Some of the GOP’ers have had enough of the hard right’s hard-hitting style. 'Is Tom McClintock OK with this?' wrote Ken Campbell, a moderate who has challenged the leadership of the more politically extreme contingent, toppled in a recent election. The group will elect new leadership on Jan. 12.

The rest of Pelline's uninformed rant is here.

What Pelline glossed over that Ken Campbell also stated that McClintock did not know likely anything about the correspondence about which Campbell wrote. Campbell even went on to say, "Tom has been a personal hero of mine ever since he ran for Controller in the early 90's, and I in no way want to put Tom in a bad light."

Clearly, Pelline's omissions are designed to mislead readers as to Campbell's intent and taint the reader's impression of our Congressman.

This is yet another example of how the rhetoric from the local far-left, led by Jeff Pelline in connection with all things conservative, is increasingly unhinged and extraordinarily irrational.

Tom Hudson, Chairman of the Placer County Republican Party responded coherently and professionally to Pelline's scribblings as follows:

I like Ken Campbell and I would welcome his renewed involvement in the Placer Central Committee. He is a reliable conservative whose long-time commitment to the conservative cause has been proven over and over again, over the course of many years. He is no more or less “right wing” than the leadership of the Placer County Republican Party.

My only point here is that is that Jeff Pelline obviously knows absolutely nothing at all about the Placer County Republican Party. Calling Ken Campbell a “moderate” is proof of that. Apparently, Jeff Pelline’s source of information is Ken Campbell, who has not been actively involved either. Perhaps it would be better to show up at a meeting or campaign event before blogging about a subject that you know nothing about.

If you want to volunteer to help elect our Republican candidates in Placer County, we hope that you will get involved with the Placer County Republican Party. Our volunteers will confirm that there is no ideological test for volunteers and donors.

Ken Campbell is a solid conservative Republican. That is a fact beyond any doubt and only someone who knows nothing about Placer County politics would not know that. In addition, there is no ideological rift in the Nevada County Republican Central Committee either. The continuing unfounded allegations by Pelline are completely without basis in fact, but Pelline's leftwing followers love to hear the sophistry.

The local liberal spin never stops, but the best part of this story...the mature, seasoned, and educated response to Hudson by Pelline:

"Tom,
Go blow your smoke up somebody else’s blog, you loser. Thanks."

We expect nothing less from the former Union editor and fearless leader of the local left...

Pelline attacks from the left side of the road - again

Our earnest referee for democracy, Jeff Pelline, is at it again, shocked-just-shocked at Congressman Tom McClintock’s “skipping another candidates forum in his district” sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

But as I pointed out yesterday, the League has moved so far to the left by endorsing every major policy initiative of the Obama administration – Obamacare, amnesty for illegals, cap and trade and opposition to extending all of the Bush tax cuts – that they can no longer be considered a neutral political forum.

Funny that Jeff isn’t the least bit disturbed that Clint Curtis and Ben Emery were absent from a Tea Party forum in El Dorado Hills on Tuesday that drew some 200 people.

Jeff Pelline Missed the Mark with McClintock Again

Looks like our self-proclaimed “journalist” Jeff Pelline missed the mark again with his latest attack on Congressman Tom McClintock.

Jeff notes that McClintock “was a ‘no show’ at a League of Women Voters candidate forum,” and goes on to charge, “The Union reported that McClintock did not attend ‘because of his voting duties in Congress.’ But had it dug deeper, it would have found that Congress had just begun a recess for, well, campaigning. Oops.”

Had Jeff dug deeper, he would have discovered that the House adjourned after midnight that morning and the first available non-stop flight back to the district departed at 7:48 pm – and McClintock was on it. Oops.

Had Jeff dug a little deeper still, he would have discovered that the House’s adjournment at O-dark-thirty that morning was actually a day earlier than scheduled, inviting the question, if the League of Women Voters really wanted McClintock’s participation, why would they have scheduled the event on a day when the House had been scheduled to meet? Oops.

Had Jeff dug a little deeper still, he might have stumbled upon the answer in the League’s consistently left-wing positions. They support everything from cap-and-trade and amnesty for illegal aliens to Obamacare and tax increases. Hardly a neutral forum. Oops.

But Jeff’s big beef is that McClintock is a featured speaker at a prestigious national conference in Orange County this week. It must have escaped Jeff’s finely-honed investigative skills that McClintock is a nationally recognized leader for conservative fiscal policy – in fact, he’s featured in a documentary film “I Want Your Money” being released theatrically nationally today.

Nevertheless, despite all this, this week McClintock has made personal appearances in Grass Valley and three times in El Dorado Hills, including a Tea Party Candidate Forum that his Democratic opponent didn’t attend – a “missed” opportunity, to use Jeff’s words, “for residents to hear what the candidates have to say…!”

Today, McClintock appears at a forum on fiscal policy at Sac State. Maybe Jeff should consider signing up for a class there...maybe Journalism 101 for starters!

Jeff Pelline - Middle of the Road Journalist?

Today, Jeff Pelline, our local leftwing blogger (although he professes to be "middle of the road"), posted a so-called "scorecard" on our Congressman McClintock from "themiddleclass.org" website. Pelline's post is here.

The website "themiddleclass.org" is a project of a leftist organization called the Drum Major Institute ("DMI"). The bills on their list include Obamacare, the failed Stimulus Bill, Cap-and-Trade, and amnesty for illegal aliens, which DMI supports and an overwhelming majority of Americans (including Congressman McClintock) opposes.

Any self-respecting and self-described "middle of the road" journalist would have done a little more research on this group and certainly would not have portrayed falsely that DMI actually speaks for the middle class.

Jeff Pelline - Middle of the Road or Ultra-Liberal Radical

Over the past two years since the abrupt ending of his employment with The Union, Jeff Pelline has amassed quite a political record on his blog. He claims to be "in the middle," but let's take a clear look at who and what he has opposed since the beginning of 2009.

1. Opposes Republican Congressman
2. Opposes Republican Assemblyman
3. Opposes Republican candidate for County Treasurer
4. Opposes Proposition 23 (supports AB32)
5. Opposes Republican candidate for Governor
6. Opposes Republican candidate for US Senate
7. Opposed Republican candidate for District 3 Supervisor
8. Opposed Republican candidate for Clerk-Recorder

BONUS: Members of the Nevada County Democrat Central Committee who regularly comment on Pelline's blog disagree rarely, if ever, with him.

Based on this scorecard, it appears to me that the Jeff Pelline Blog is more mouthpiece for the left than "fair and balanced."

On a side note, I agree with Jeff on the County Treasurer's race, so I guess that makes me more "middle of the road" than him.

Jeff Pelline or Nevada County MoveOn.Org

Again this morning, Jeff Pelline goes after our congressman with innuendo and lack of full disclosure. Russ Steele stated that there was a possibility that AT&T was the culprit who caused Nevada County Connect ("NCC") to not receive ARRA funds as detailed here.

Pelline continues wrongfully that because McClintock received $7,500 from AT&T, so he must be to blame. Are you kidding me? Pelline's blogpost is yet another example muckraking journalism.

Yesterday, Pelline failed to fully disclose facts as demonstrated here. Let's get to full disclosure...again.

Barbara Boxer, who also supported vocally the NCC project and as a three-term Senator should be able to push just about anything through, received $15,000 from AT&T!

Where is the faux outrage? As always, there will not be any outrage towards Boxer, because the former Union editor, Pelline, writes for the the equivalent of "Nevada County branch of MoveOn.org."

Pot Shots from the Local Left

"Nevada County Connected’s project, although we went through a thorough (and grueling) 7-week vetting during due diligence, was in the end not a recipient of ARRA funds. Although we don’t know for certain, the funding of the Central Valley Next-Generation Broadband Infrastructure Project’s ("CVNGBIP") 18-county fiber-optic middle-mile project, which passes through Nevada County, was probably the key reason. It would appear that the two middle-mile projects overlapped geographically, when in reality Nevada County Connected was the natural extension of the bandwidth the CVNGBIP project will drop here." So says Nevada County Connected ("NCC").

But instead of highlighting why NCC feels they did not receive ARRA funds, our local left-wing blogger and FUE, Jeff Pelline, in typical and predictable fashion, decided it was a good time to take a poorly aimed shot at Tom McClintock who supported the NCC. Because our Congressman supported it and NCC did not get the ARRA funds, the FUE goes on to conclude that it was the Congressman's fault despite the fact that NCC's speculation is the opposite.

In order to give you full disclosure, guess who else supported the project - Barbara Boxer! Where is the faux outrage? We won't be seeing any, because as always, there is a double standard with the liberal FUE!

NCC is supported a three-term Senator from California who sits on the Senate Committee for Commerce and a freshman Congressman, yet NCC did not receive the funding. What seems more plausible...NCC's explanation or the FUE's?

Me thinks that the FUE doth spin too much...

Intimidation and Retaliation Tactics - the FUE way

After the 2008 Election, it appears that the FUE (before he became the FUE) was really mad that he was not invited to the election event at the Foundry and threw a colossal temper tantrum. I had never seen this article before this morning, but it explains a lot of what I have seen since I became aware of his existence.

Pelline apparently sent threatening emails to Gretchen Bond, the Foundry Director. When Bond was contacted by The Messenger, she declined to comment on the e-mails she received from Pelline. "I can't do this on the record," she said. Asked if it was true she received abusive and threatening e-mails from Pelline, Bond replied, "No comment."

"Several sources described the e-mails from Pelline to Bond as 'threatening' and said Pelline had promised that not a further word of ink about the Foundry would appear in print if the paper was not allowed to participate in the election night event."

"Intimidation and retaliation tactics have long been one of the paper's, and Pelline's, main ways of dealing with dissent in the community. One reader commented to Pelline about the paper's absolute absence of critical editing. Pelline contacted one of that reader's clients and tried to get him fired."

The rest of the article is here.

This is the same guy who lashes out at everyone else who does not share his opinions. This is the same guy that had received more complaints at the Union than anyone knew about. Shocking...I know. I am sure these tactics were not appreciated by The Union. The more I read about this guy, the more sense it all seems to make.

Exit Question: How can this community grow together with a bomb thrower like Pelline still running around here?

Editor's Note:  Just so that readers have a time reference, this incident with the Miner's Foundry occurred about two months before Jeff Pelline was let go from The Union.
