Jeff Pelline Missed the Mark with McClintock Again

Looks like our self-proclaimed “journalist” Jeff Pelline missed the mark again with his latest attack on Congressman Tom McClintock.

Jeff notes that McClintock “was a ‘no show’ at a League of Women Voters candidate forum,” and goes on to charge, “The Union reported that McClintock did not attend ‘because of his voting duties in Congress.’ But had it dug deeper, it would have found that Congress had just begun a recess for, well, campaigning. Oops.”

Had Jeff dug deeper, he would have discovered that the House adjourned after midnight that morning and the first available non-stop flight back to the district departed at 7:48 pm – and McClintock was on it. Oops.

Had Jeff dug a little deeper still, he would have discovered that the House’s adjournment at O-dark-thirty that morning was actually a day earlier than scheduled, inviting the question, if the League of Women Voters really wanted McClintock’s participation, why would they have scheduled the event on a day when the House had been scheduled to meet? Oops.

Had Jeff dug a little deeper still, he might have stumbled upon the answer in the League’s consistently left-wing positions. They support everything from cap-and-trade and amnesty for illegal aliens to Obamacare and tax increases. Hardly a neutral forum. Oops.

But Jeff’s big beef is that McClintock is a featured speaker at a prestigious national conference in Orange County this week. It must have escaped Jeff’s finely-honed investigative skills that McClintock is a nationally recognized leader for conservative fiscal policy – in fact, he’s featured in a documentary film “I Want Your Money” being released theatrically nationally today.

Nevertheless, despite all this, this week McClintock has made personal appearances in Grass Valley and three times in El Dorado Hills, including a Tea Party Candidate Forum that his Democratic opponent didn’t attend – a “missed” opportunity, to use Jeff’s words, “for residents to hear what the candidates have to say…!”

Today, McClintock appears at a forum on fiscal policy at Sac State. Maybe Jeff should consider signing up for a class there...maybe Journalism 101 for starters!
